Monstera adansonii variegata, a variegated monkey mask
With its variegated and perforated leaves, Monstera adansonii variegata is something of an Araceae collector's dream. This variety is descended from Monstera adansonii. Like monstera 'Frozen Freckles. It's a spontaneous hybrid that grows wild in Central America. You can also buy a specimen from the most discerning plant sellers.
How to recognize Monstera adansonii variegata?
Monstera adansonii variegata is a climbing perennial. In pots and indoors, it rarely exceeds 150 centimetres in height.
In its native tropical forests, Monstera adansonii variegata uses its aerial roots to cling to trees and capture ambient humidity.
The tough, glossy leaves are pierced by fenestrations on either side of the midrib. Bright green, they are mottled with white, cream or pale yellow. The distribution of holes, like the pattern of variegation, differs on each leaf blade. Each leaf is therefore unique.
Monstera adansonii variegata rarely flowers indoors. A creamy spathe enveloping a flower spike may nevertheless bloom.
Monstera adansonii variegata is toxic. The sap, contained in all parts of the plant, causes digestive problems if ingested, and irritation if it comes into contact with the skin. Keep your specimen away from pets and wear gloves when pruning and repotting.

Cutting
Cutting is carried out during the strong growth phase, generally in spring and early summer.
Locate a node on your plant, if possible with an aerial root and at least one leaf. Using a clean, disinfected tool, such as a pair of scissors or pruning shears, cut two centimetres below the node.
Place your cutting in a glass filled with water at room temperature. Make sure you submerge the knots, which will form the roots.
Place in a bright spot away from direct sunlight. Change the water regularly to keep it clear until the roots appear.
